Bangladesh: University student beaten to half dead over Facebook comment

Comilla, Bangladesh: Joydev Kumar Shil is a student of Comilla University, Bangladesh. He was majoring Finance & Banking, sec 2014-15. He was beaten to half dead by local mobs. The local Muslims handed him to police afterward.  The accusation was a comment on Facebook.

He commented on Voice Of America's verified Facebook  page. As per local media, he wrote, " all Muslims are terrorists and Islamic prophet   Mohammad promoted terrorism". Joydev is now facing jail for insulting Islam and was suspended from the university. The university  Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Emran Kabir Chowdhury said, "Such incident in non-communal Bangladesh is very condemn-able and punishable offense. The university administration has temporarily expelled the alleged student. In the context of the investigation committee report, the next decision will be taken.
 Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abu Salam said the case has been filed against the accused under the Digital Security Act.

Although  Joydev was suspnded from the university and sent to jail, another screenshot roaming on Facebook a Muslim student- Monirul Islam Abir from the same university insulted Hindu Goddess  Durga and threatened Bangladeshi Hindus to kick off from Bangladesh and send to India.

 Monirul commented," The Mala*n (bad word/Hindus) of Bangladesh should be beaten with shoes and sent to India. Until they (Hindus) have sex with Durga Devi, they wouldn't have common sense. There is no place for Hindus in Bangladesh. 

But no action was taken from the university or government officials. This seems  university  Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Emran Kabir Chowdhury himself taken action against Joydev only because he is a Hindu student. Since last 10 years, many online activities, atheists, free thinkers, Hindus, Christians and  Buddhists are jailed under Digital Security Act. This Act is only applying to minorities. Earlier this month an Advocate from northern Panchagarh Zilla - Palash Kumar Roy was burnt alive in the jail. He was accused of  insulting PM Sheikh Hasina. The media was controlled by the government and told not to publish about his death. BBC Bangla published it weeks later. Recently, Hindus in Bangladesh living under threat while minority-favor Hasina government in power. Many people saying, Hasina government broke all the records torturing minorities.
